Yaima
Seattle, WA
Artist/Band
YAIMA is an old word meaning, "that which water runs through" -- a conduit for diverse musical languages. Their music is rooted in rich traditional sounds, while reach reaching forward to a compelling technological future. The band combines genres like Indie-Folk, Electronica, Psy-Ambient, Dub-Pop, and Americana. Their songs weave together a hypnogogic groove that recalls Massive Attack, Dead Can Dance, Portishead, and Desert Dwellers.

Yaima is a confluence of musicians from the Seattle/Cascadia Region: Pepper Proud, Masaru Higasa, and Jeff Kimes. When these kindred souls get together they achieve a new harmonic element. Having evolved out of the traditional "band" model, they deliver a well sculpted creative energy that engages the imagination and leaves people feeling inspired and awakened.

Yaima's live performances spin a narrative arc - combining music, poetry, visual projections, dance, costume, and aerial performances. On stage they create a multi-sensory journey that simultaneously arrests and moves. Their audience feels as if they had just participated in a choose-your-own-adventure story within a musical experience.

Yaima first released the Wander EP, followed shortly by their breakthrough album Pellucidity in 2014. This release attracted the attention of their current label, Jumpsuit Records.
