Hamsa Lila
Global Nomads
Artist/Band
Hamsa Lila plays infectious world trance grooves influenced from the traditional sounds of Morocco, West Africa, Brazil, India, and the Caribbean. Featuring a strong emphasis on Gnawa and Yoruba flavors, the band plays hypnotic polyrhythms while singing in 13 languages. Also infusing elements of hip-hop and spoken word, as well as ritual dance, Hamsa Lila is recognized as a pioneer in world fusion music. Hitting the West Coast scene in 2001, they've gained cult-like status for their marathon, dusk-to-dawn, non-stop live performances.

The Hamsa Lila sound is driven by ultra-tight South African kit drummer, Ian ‘Inkx’ Herman (who’s backed Paul Simon, Sting, Hugh Masakela, Vusi Mahlasela, Habib Koite). The mesmerizing vocals are shared by velvet voiced Nikila Badua and soulful Deja Solis, along with the core tribal resonance of MJ Greenmountain. The three singers converge harmoniously to make the blend swoon-worthy.
